Congratulations! We saved the Footscray Dental Clinics!

The government has announced a committment of $9.7 million for the Western Region Health Centre (WRHC) to build a new dental clinic.

The Footscray dental clinics provide emergency and general dental care to 10,000+ children and adults in the West each year. However, neglect from subsequent governments has left the clinic crumbling and calls for the clinic to be rebuilt have been ignored since 2007, until this community campaign win!

Many hundreds of people signed and sent postcards to the Premier, emailed the Premier from my website, and spread the word on social media. This campaign has shown that the community are prepared to take action to protect their community health care services, and can win!

This is on the back of The Greens securing the biggest reform to dental health in a generation - almost $5 billion investment into the dental health of millions of Australians.

Until this reform one in three people couldn't afford to see a dentist. All this is about to change. Soon, taking your child to the dentist will be as easy as taking them to the GP. Also, if you've got a concession card, you'll have much better access to public dental care because the massive funding boost will slash dental waiting lists.

The Greens will continue working with the government to establish Denticare, putting dental into Medicare. More information here: greensmps.org.au/denticare
