Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber says the myki roll-out on V/Line trains which starts today could lead to "a dehumanised system".
"The real losers under myki are seniors, students and health care card holders in small towns where the stations are not staffed. Every option available to them under myki is more complicated and costly than buying a ticket from the conductor on the train," said Greg Barber MLC
"Myki machines only sell full fare tickets and most towns with unstaffed stations don't have shops that sell myki cards. Seniors and concession travellers will have to travel for miles to buy a myki card or buy one by mail-order"

My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Public Transport and Minister for Roads. I was very disappointed to find out that the government’s Moving More with Less policy, released in April, which allows bigger, longer trucks on our road network, was released without a proper trial to find out the impacts. This week it was revealed by the Age that no Melbourne trucking companies fully participated in the two-year VicRoads trial. Without a proper trial, it is difficult to know what the impact of these freight trucks of up to 36.5 metres long will be.
The 2012 report to VicRoads by transport consultant Rob Di Cristoforo regarding the trial noted that the impacts on roads and bridges is unknown, and allowing heavier trucks on those roads would test the load capacity of roads and bridges.

(1) notes that the documents relating to the east-west link, ordered by the resolution of the Council on 17 April 2013 to be tabled in the Council by 7 May 2013, have not been received by the Council;
(2) notes the letter of 7 May 2013 from the Minister for Public Transport in response to the Council's resolution;
(3) affirms the privileges, immunities and powers conferred on the Council pursuant to section 19 of the Constitution Act 1975;
(4) affirms the need to protect the high standing of Parliament and to ensure that the Council may properly discharge its duties and responsibilities; and
(5) requires the Leader of the Government to table by Tuesday, 25 June 2013, a copy of --
(a) all documents relating to the 'Route alignments peer reviewed and short listed' and 'Communications and engagement strategy finalised' referred to on page 3 of 'East-west link reform and investment framework stages 1 to 6, August 2012' which formed part of the east-west link submission to Infrastructure Australia;
(b) the agenda, minutes, any attachments to the minutes and any presentations or materials tabled in relation to each meeting of the Department of Transport's east-west steering committee to date;
(c) all documents (including invitees list, agenda, minutes where they exist and the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation used) relating to a briefing, held on 17 July 2012, at the Treasury building, on the development of a business case for the east-west link; and
(d) all minutes and other documentation of meetings held with over 40 entities by the Minister for Roads and/or Department of Transport representatives relating to the proposed east-west tunnel infrastructure project, which are referenced in the media release 'East-west link is declared under major transport projects act'.
I have brought this motion seeking various documents in relation to the proposed east-west tollway. Previously the Council unanimously supported a similar motion, as far back as mid-April, but the documents have not been provided.
None of V/Line's commuter services met punctuality targets and the Geelong service is in serious decline, according to the latest performance figures. Meanwhile, myki is being rolled out to regional areas.
"This is the eighth consecutive month where none of the short-distance services relied upon by commuters met the punctuality targets in V/Line's contract, but we haven't heard a peep out of Denis Napthine" said Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber MLC
Western Metropolitan Region Greens MP Colleen Hartland has warned Western Suburbs residents could soon have 36.5 meter long b-double and b-triple freight vehicles rumbling past their front doors.
In questions put to the Minister by Colleen Hartland last week it was revealed that Pipe Road, Prohasky Street, Williamstown Road, Todd Road, Grieve Parade, Francis Street and Whitehall Street are all subject to ‘last mile access’ applications for mammoth 36.5 meter trucks.
"The Napthine Government is set to allow these massive 36.5 meter long freight trucks on local roads in the inner West as, without a Westgate ramp truck bypass from the port to the freeway, there is few other options." Said Colleen Hartland.
Colleen Hartland: Speech in Parliament: Before I begin my contribution I indicate that I have one question that I would like to ask in committee. If I put it on the table now, there is a possibility that it may be able to be answered during the minister’s response, which would mean we would not need to go into committee. The question is fairly straightforward: which roads are being considered for the last mile access for those longer, high-productivity freight vehicles, and when will this decision be made?
Mr BARBER (Northern Metropolitan) -- Every time I travel through western Victoria I criss-cross the Major Mitchell trail, and what I see is the same vision Major Mitchell saw: Australia Felix -- quite literally the lucky country. It is a verdant landscape; an inspirational landscape of high mountains, plains, rolling hills, tranquil winding rivers and a rugged coast. Amongst it is the human population, and while some are doing well there are pockets of great disadvantage. There are people who are underemployed and there are people who are overworked, including farmers who are quite literally working themselves sick while making the food that keeps us healthy.
Greens MP for the Western Suburbs Colleen Hartland completed her Western Suburbs train station blitz this morning at Ascot Vale train station with Denis Napthine (cardboard cut-out) under her arm.
"People have enjoyed seeing the cut out of Denis because they figure it's going to be the only time they will see him using public transport" said Colleen Hartland.
"The bad news is that in concluding this tour I can confirm that both Coalition election promises to ‘fix public transport’ and ‘not neglect the West’ have been abandoned."
Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber says V/Line's latest performance figures show a system that is failing, with the Geelong line on a downward spiral and regular passengers on every line but one eligible to claim compensation for poor punctuality.
"This is getting beyond a joke. I call on V/Line to publish the reasons for each and every delayed train so the Napthine government can be held responsible for starving V/Line of funds," said Greens MP Greg Barber

The budget we have just seen delivered of course represents the political philosophy of the Treasurer, Mr O'Brien, and the Premier, Dr Napthine. It is hard not to notice how radically anti-environment this budget is. It is almost like it was put together by a couple of high priests of some sort of fossil fuel burning cult. There is actually an environment section in the glossies that go with the budget. What it contains is quite literally a statement of how if it moves, they will shoot it, and if it does not, they will cut it down, along with a new set of incentives to start digging more stuff up.
